Lonely Planet Sri Lanka (Sri Lanka, 8th Ed)
Published in Paperback by Lonely Planet (August, 2001)
Authors: Verity Campbell, Christine Niven, Brigitte Ellemor, and Richard Plunkett
Average review score:

A trusted resource
A good guide from a good company. Not too much has changed from the previous edition though - there are some more detailed maps of Colombo.

Excellent Guide for the Independant Traveler
This well-organized, chatty yet meaty guide book is all you need to assist you on a trip to Sri Lanka.

We went to Sri Lanka in the high season (February, when the place is full of Germans and other Europeans) and the only reservation we made in advance was two nights at the Galle Face Hotel (see Columbo chapter, where to stay, top end), a fabulous old relic of colonial architecture. With the help of the Lonely Planet, we "winged" everything else: train tickets to Kandy, car rental, dive trips & bungalows on the southwestern beaches. Sri Lanka is a diverse, fabulous place to explore, and the Lonely Planet made it super easy.

Great historical chapter "Facts About the Country" makes for good reading while you're waiting for your cold lassi to come to the table.

Lonley Planet Sri Lanka is an Excellent Resource.
This book goes into deep detail about Sri Lanka. Being a Sri Lankan myself resideing in Australia. I found this book defintely worth taking on your trip. The best thing about the book is, that as new devolpements come, the Lonley Planet website allows you to upgrade (free of charge) the information in it, by you downloading the new revised pages. As long you keep the book updated the book will always have the latest information. This is not-only this guide book, but for all of Lonley Planets guide books. Normally I would give this book 4 stars, but for this feature alone 5 stars is worth the effort.

A girl who knows what she's talkin' about
THis book was good but not great. Its a good read if u want to
know about MIchael Jackson's life I'm a fan. I've been a fan all my life. SInce I'm only 13 . Buy this book u may love it but don't take it from me read a chapter!

Great book...
I just finished this book and was not at all disappointed. It's an awesome book that not only goes into extreme detail about MJ's life but also a little bit about the entire Jackson family and even some of the friends/workers associated with MJ. The book starts at the very beginning and goes all the way up to just before the "Dangerous" Tour. Lisa Campbell makes mention of every award he's ever won, every performance, every interview, and a lot of magazine articles. She also gives a detailed reveiw of the "Victory" and "Bad" tours. Overall, there's just too much stuff to talk about in this little review. If you're very keen on getting tons of facts, this is the book you want.

a book on the greatest
i enjoyed this book so much.especially about unreleased material.michael jackson is the greatest artist ever.he has done it all and still he gets no love.it will take another 50-100 years for folks to know how great this artist is&was.i bought both books by the author and was impressed with her knowledge and detail of the subject.i hope she writes a third.

No Time for Love: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Covenant Communications (May, 2000)
Author: Nancy Campbell Allen
Average review score:

Pretty good, just not as good as the first book
Nancy's first book was excellent and a hard act to follow. This one is still a fun read, but it doesn't quite measure up to the first one. But I think Nancy's doing a great job and should definitely keep it up.

None stop action and romance!
I am not an avid reader, but this book somehow caught my eye when I read what it was about. I read the whole book in two days, and I was enthralled from beginning to end. The love story that unfolded between the two main characters was fantastic, and the action was outragous. Nancy Allen Campbell is a fantastic author, and I cannot wait to read the rest of the books that she has to offer.

An Adventure Love Stroy with LDS Morals! Great!
I picked up this book because I saw Big Ben and Parliament on the cover. I had no idea what I was going to read, but was pleasently surprised when I began to turn the pages. Espinoge, adventure, spy, and love. I could read myself into the characters, they are very realistic. I couldn't put the book down! When I finished the book I learned that it was second in a series and now I have to go and read the first and third books! Overall, great book that will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens!

Ramsey Campbell's Goatswood and Less Pleasant Places: A Present Day Severn Valley Sourcebook and Campaign for Call of Cthulhu
Published in Paperback by Chaosium (October, 2001)
Authors: Scott David Aniolowski, Gary Sumpter, Richard Watts, J. Todd Kingrea, Clifton Ganyard, Rob Malkovich, Steve Spisak, Mike Mason, David Mitchell, and Lynn Willis
Average review score:

A Great Buy!
It's good to see Chaosium getting back to topnotch books again. This one along with Unseen Masters, represents a "new wave" of Call of Cthulhu - as good or better than any of the stuff released in years.

You can't really go wrong with this package, it's got background resource material for the Goatswood area and a nice bundle of scenarios that look like fun to run (I can't wait to spring some of them on my group! HEH HEH HEH) I don't want to give away any spoilers but there's an S&M club, and the "GUARD" at the club is such a wicked idea not to mention the dude who runs the place. Good to see Ramsey the man himself giving the introduction, read his Silent Children book if you really want to get chills!

The artwork is decent, and lots of it. Plenty of handouts too, which are really important as far as I am concerned. One thing I could do without though is the side illustrations, they take up too much room that could maybe be used for information. But that's a small jibe compared to the value.

A Great Book!
I'm a longtime Cthulhu keeper but new to Ramsey Campbell (other than the material in the rulebook). The first half of the book is devoted to resource material covering magic, monsters and locations in the fictitious Severn Valley (well the Severn Valley itself isn't fictitious of course). The second half is devoted to a campaign of 7 or 8 scenarios. Everything is well written, well thought out and seems very playable. I'm looking forward to running it!

Campbell At Last!
I've waited a long time for this one, and the wait was worth it! It's chock full of scenarios (forming a campaign which you can ignore if you want), and lots of background material on Ramsey Campbell's Severn Valley. I wish there'd been more maps and maybe more info on some of the locations but all in all, this is a COOL package!

pages 20-21 list of factors in dealing with
feelings
pages 25-26 list of mental blockage indicators
pages 30-31 kinds of resistance to change
pages 40-48 emotional strategies ==> how
to improve emotional intelligence!!!
pages 136-138 list of inappropriate communication
techniques.
The general strategies developed in pages 1-96 are
applied later to anxiety, anger, loneliness, depression.
An appendix expands this list to confusion, disappointment,
envy, facial tics, frustration, guilt, and helplessness.

most helpful book i ever read...
i have a copy of this book i have referred to many times since the 80's. i do not know the authors, nor do i have any vested interest in a submitting a complimentary review. i have never submitted such a review before. i attest that this book is the single most helpful self-help book that i have ever had the good fortune to read. in one's darkest hour, it can help you INSTANTLY...i am happy it is still available, and i am buying a copy for a friend in need (not wanting to part with my own!)

Excellent source of coping stratgies
Among the hundreds of serious and not-so pop psych books I've read, "Rapid Relief" actually works. Particularly useful is the "emotional scale" which can help you understand what you or others are going through as you go through your ups and downs.

However "Rapid" is NOT a substitute for deep work with an qualified, experienced and insightful therapist. Instead it's an execellent source of day to day coping stratgies. For eight bucks, that's quite a deal.

Understanding and using the innate music we are born with.
THE ROAR OF SILENCE : Healing Powers of Breath, Tone & Music. By Don G. Campbell. 134 pp. Wheaton, Ill.: The Theosophical Publishing House, 1994 (1989).

The human voice is an amazing and beautiful instrument and all of us have one. Sadly most of us are totally unaware of the power and beauty of our own God-given voice. Campbell's book remedies that ignorance. Among other things, it gives us detailed and precise instructions for toning - "the singing of prolonged sounds, usually simple vowels, on a single note" - which anyone can follow, and it takes us very deeply into the mystery that is our voice.

The book contains seven chapters followed by these progressive exercises : 1. Toning the Body; 2. Healing the Listener; 3. Exploring the Depths of Memory; 4. Awakening the Sonic Spectrum; 5. Exploring the Vibratory Centers; 6. Making Overtones; 7. The Roar of Silence.

If you follow his instructions and step-by-step exercises, you will soon be amazed to find yourself producing the most incredible and beautiful sounds. You will also find that it's huge fun, lightens your mood, clears the mind of its usual clutter, and that it can help alleviate certain minor physical problems such as headaches and perhaps even a few major ones. In short, it's great fun and makes you feel GOOD!

The main effects of toning are to balance the mind, emotions, and body, and if you persist in practice you will learn how to direct certain frequencies to different areas of the body where the sustained natural vibrations of your voice can be used to produce a wide range of beneficial effects.

This makes perfect sense because all things, ultimately, are vibration. Modern Physics and Ancient Science both concur in this. The body is a complex and delicately balanced pattern of vibrations and energy flows which can very easily become disturbed, and which need continual fine-tuning and adjustment to be kept in top condition.

I think that's what toning does for us. I also think that is why wolves howl. They don't howl, as some believe, because they are lonely or to announce someone's death. They howl to rebalance the energies in their body and to re-center themselves. In other words, they love to howl because it makes them feel GOOD!

Human beings are gifted with a much finer vocal instrument than God has seen fit to give to wolves, and Campbell is of course not asking you to howl but to tone. My advice would be to give Campbell and toning a try.

Campbell has something very important to teach us. His is one of several good books I've looked at on the subject (a related and excellent book is Jonathan Goldman's 'Healing Sounds'). And I think that if, as I did, you give it a try you'll find toning enormous fun.

Humming and singing are of course unconscious forms of re-centering, though few of us have the ability to sing well. But when it comes to producing not songs but individual notes, you'll be surprised at how well you can do and how good it makes you feel.

So if you are one of those people who think that sound is 'just sound,' you might take a look at Campbell's book. It's one of those books that help put us back in touch with ourselves, and that bring us vitally important knowledge that could greatly benefit anyone.

Your Voice & Breath Can Heal You!! Superb Powerful Book!
This is a wonderfully-written, easy-to-read book that is powerfully-inspiring and deep-reaching. As Jean Houston's foreword shares, Don Campbell helps you become aware of and attune to universal sound, and find your resonance within yourself. Don shares his "Journey into Toning" and that he had "always known there are powers in music, sound, and light that are far more potent than the arts themselves..." (pg1) Reading this book lets you share in his journey, and wondrously guides you to enlarge your own journey into a healing, loving self-exploration and sharing of your own creative expression of yourself with yourself and, with the world. He writes: "To sing is not enough. We must tap the powers that lie beneath the consciousness of the song. The song leads down to the chant, the chant leads down to the tone, the tone leads to the energy beneath the sound --- the roar of silence." (pgs75-76) I had the pleasure of working with Don around the time of this book's publication, and the transformation experienced then illumines my work still. Don lives his work and beliefs, and aids you to discover and choose to do the same. With wonderful explanations, exercises, a few illustrations, and an empowering, sharing writing style, Don Campbell helps you share and enjoy yourself through the ROAR OF SILENCE.

Scoring High on Bar Exam Essays (Professional Certification and Licensing Examination Series)
Published in Paperback by Macmillan General Reference (July, 1991)
Author: Mary Campbell Gallagher
Average review score:

A Good Study Aid for Writing Essays
I'm happy to recommend this book - it's quite useful. The first half of the book is tips, the second half is 80 full-length essay exam with model answers. The tips section is built on Gallagher's essay writing "system" which is basically the IRAC system which every law student uses, modified into CRAC. Her "model paragraph" system is quite useful, and something that I wish I had learned about earlier in my law school career. The only downside is that the book was written in '96, and while substantively the information isn't out-of-date, it would be nice if it wasn't so old.

Well worth the money
I bought this book from Half.com, then ended up taking the essay course taught by the author, Dr. Mary Gallagher, in NYC. Made all the difference. Her course directly reflected the method that she describes in her book. If essays are your weakness, using her method should make a positive difference.

Don't take the bar without it!!!
If you are serious about passing the bar exam, you should stop reading this review immediately and BUY DR. GALLAGHER'S BOOK! Even if you are unable to take her excellent course (which I HIGHLY recommend), you MUST add this book to your list of bar preparation materials. By practicing Dr. Gallagher's simple, effective writing method, and using the sample essays she provides, you will be trained to write any bar exam essay quickly, efficiently, and successfully. Dr. Gallagher helped me to pass the New York Bar Exam on the first try! Miss Penny and Mr Grubbs
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (Juv) (April, 1991)
Author: Lisa Campbell Ernst
Average review score:

A Funny Bunny Book
This book is about two long-time neighbors of forty-eight years, Miss Penny and Mr. Grubbs. Miss Penny is a nice lady that is an excellent gardener with a green thumb. She has won numerous prizes for her excellent vegetables. However, Mr. Grubbs is grumpy old man who doesn't share Miss Penny's talent of growing vegetables, and his vegetables are no where near her level. But like I said, he's a grumpy guy, so he plots revenge against Miss Penny by putting bunny rabbits in her backyard. I won't tell you the outcome of this story but it's a good book to read so you'll just have to find out for yourself!

MISS PENNY AND MR. GRUBBS
The book starts with Mr. Grubb being mad at Mrs. Penny becasue her garden grew huge vegetables and his did not. He said that this year it would be different. He said that he was going to do every thing he could do to make his garden better then hers. He put rabbits in her garden. When she put up a fence Mr. Grubbs cut it and put more rabbits in her garden. While he was trying to destroy Mrs. Penny's garden he forgot to water and take care of his own garden. Now that all of the rabbits had eaten her vegetables she had no vegetable to enter in the fair. So instead of a vegetable she took the rabbits and ended up winning first prize.
A great book for teaching a lesson on doing bad things to others. Nothing good comes out of it.

A must have for all young children!
This is a priceless story not only about being making lemonade but sharing it with the very person who was handing out the lemons! A great lesson for readers of all ages! Our six year old loves to read it and our six month old is captivated by the beautiful illustrations.

My Warrior
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Jove Pubns (03 October, 2001)
Author: Glynnis Campbell
Average review score:

Childish heroine brings down good story
I'm a long-time romance fan with a particular affinity for the medieval period. I liked Duncan and Linet's story last year and was looking forward to the continuing adventures of the de Ware clan. I really like the hero of this story - Holden de Ware, who is everything a medieval warrior hero should be. I am however, deeply disappointed with the heroine - Cambria Gavin - who is no match for Holden in any way, as far as I can tell.

As a young Scots woman charged with either maintaining a fragile truce with the English (brokered by her father) or destroying it, Cambria makes every self-righteous, immature choice possible, and does everything she can to ensure ongoing trouble for herself and everyone around her. She has no sense of diplomacy, no sense of restraint. Every impetuous comment or action that occurs in her fevered little brain pops right out, and it becomes maddening to the reader as she falls into one scrape after another, or causes injury to others because of her thoughtlessness.

Throughout this, Holden, with long-suffering patience and amazing temperance, does not beat her or lock her up (except for briefly). Instead, he sets out to make her trust him and fall in love with him. Why he thinks she's worth having is not clear to me. That he succeeds and they fall in love is a given, since this is a romance. But I was left unsatisfied, thinking that Holden definitely got the short end of the bargain. I hope the other de Ware brothers fare better in their choices of mates and the HEA endings to come.

my warrior - an adventure of the heart!
Cambria Gavin is a proud Scot and the only child of Laird Angus Gavin. She grew up with a sword in her hand, a bow and arrow she can shoot straighter than any knight and chain mail for her code of dress. She doesn't know, or care, how beautiful she is. She cares only for ber beloved Scotland, Blackhaugh Castle, the Gavin land and the Scottish way of life. Laird Angus knows the only way to ensure their future is with the support of the English army. He agrees to meet with one of Kind Edward's knights, Lord Holden de Ware, a man known to be just and honorable and trustworthy. Bah! Cambria believes no Enlishman can be trusted!

There is much jealousy and treachery going on inside the castles walls. Blackhaugh is crumbling and Holden de Ware cannot believe the strength and courage of this Scottish sprite. Cambria is brave and breathtakingly beautiful. She is also strong, stubborn and opinionated; the perfect woman for him! Winning her heart feels more glorious than any victory he's ever won on the battlefield. Holden has been conquered; the mighty warrior has fallan and is a willing prisoner of her heart. For the first time in Cambria's life she feels like a woman. In Holden she sees a mighty warrior, a protector and the promise of a future. They love each other beyond reason, beyond understanding and more than life itself. This love is tested many times over. They are captivating.

If you like castles and kings and knights in shining armor, whose legs turn to mush when they fall in love, don't miss this truly marvelous adventure of the heart. Ms. Campbell has gifted us with a wonderful sequel to MY CHAMPION, de Ware brother #1's adventurous tale. One can only hope that de Ware brother #3 has his own story in the near future. Rare treasure, these brothers three; gifts for your heart. Don't miss them.

A superb historical romance
In 1333, King Edward assigns a difficult task to one of his most trusted warriors. Holden de Ware must forge an alliance with the Scottish border clan Gavin. Holden and Angus Gavin work out an agreement, but a jealous lieutenant Sir Roger Fitzroi thinks otherwise and murders a stunned Angus. This devilish act leaves his daughter Cambria as chieftain.

Cambria hates Holden for his betrayal of the pact with her father and wants him dead in an eye for an eye belief that he killed her beloved sire. Cambria, a remarkable swordswoman, vows vengeance, but Holden tries his best to stop her from arousing more ire and spilling unnecessary blood. Though she detests him, Cambria and Holden fall in love, but treachery still lingers as Roger plans to eliminate what he perceives as his obstacle for Edward's blessing, de Ware.

MY WARRIOR, the latest de Ware tale (see MY CHAMPION), is an exciting medieval romance starring two enticing lead charcaters. Though the story line adheres strictly to the typical sub-genre basic theme, fans will enjoy this novel because Holden and Cambria are a delightful duo struggling with betrayal, mistrust, and love. Glynnis Campbell entertains her audience with this exciting fourteenth century novel.
